Is it harder for an English speaking person to learn to speak/understand Mandarin, or for a Mandarin speaking person to learn to speak/understand English. (Not the reading/writing aspect). (I know it depends on individual circumstances, but generally, which will probably be harder?)

I wanna learn Mandarin, Japanese and Korean. Would it be hard to learn it at the same time? And does Korean have an alphabet? Is it like English where they write the word depending on how they sound? Or do they have characters for every word, like Chinese?
