Would it be difficult to learn Mandarin and Korean at the same time?

Just wondering since I plan on taking classes outside of school, one or twice a week for the next three years. A large majority of the people in my community, not to mention my friends, are Mandarin, so I thought it might be useful to have knowledge of the language in case something comes up. Half of my step-family are from South Korea, which is why I’d like to learn Korean. Would it help if I’m Japanese (also taking classes to improve)? Which language is harder, in terms of pronunciation, grammar and writing?
