To the US military, will Mandarin become more useful in the next 4-10 years?

(as far as making a career out of the military)

I’m a bit young to be joining the military, and I’ve no idea what I want to do, but I know that I want to go into the Air Force as a ROTC thing, probably as a linguist, and I was curious about Chinese.

What I know so far is that:
1) It’s a Cat IV language
2) Cat IV is the hardest to get into, and that I need 110 points on the DLAB to qualify
3) the DLAB is not an easy thing to do, and there’s no way to study
4) ROTC is more or less equivalent to joining an academy.

If the answer is "no, you will probably become obsolete when Communist China falls," what language would be the most practical?

I’ve not spoken to a recruiter yet, but I figured I might try to seem like I know what I’m talking about when I do see him/her.
