To be honest, I would like to learn both but can only pick one first. I am Chinese and most of my family speaks Cantonese, but I can only speak English and Cantonese is not taught at the community college I will be attending. I understand that learning Mandarin would be very helpful to know if my career made it relevant, but I don’t see my future career as being extremely relevant. Over he past few years I have become very fond of Japanese culture. I do enjoy the Chinese language and I feel obligated to learn it, but I find myself attached to Japan’s ways. Advantages, benefits, disadvantages of both? What should I do and choose?
