Is it possible to survive in China without knowing how to speak mandarin?

I’m planning on traveling to meet someone there. But i have very short time to learn Mandarin. Will i ever survive? because i don’t know anyone besides that person.. But it’s a fun adventure i think.
for 1 month or 2 i guess. hehe
