Can you help me with the pronunciation of three Mandarin words?

1. 是 ("to be")
2. 吃 ("to eat")
3. 十 ("ten")

I haven’t really heard them together (to try to diferenciate them) so far. I don’t know what’s the difference.
Is TONE the ONLY difference? :S
