Obviously I speak English, but I’d like to learn another language or two over the next couple of years. I already know Spanish. I know many people say to learn Mandarin because it’s popular in international business…but it’s extremely difficult. I’m looking for a language that isn’t just useful but is also relatively easy to learn. Any suggestions?

Written Chinese is very difficult to learn (for me at least), but the spoken language Mandarin is not really as difficult to learn as it seems at first. If you struggle with non-romance languages you could try Portuguese, it’s widely spoken, Brazil is an emerging economic power so it’ll probably be useful, and it’s fairly similar to Spanish.
i think japanese is very easy to learn (not by experience, jsut heresay)
Well German is similar to english since english is a germanic language but I don’t know how useful it would be. As for the Japanese thing I am learning japanese and it is not something you pick up quickly. So I think German. Though I think something like mandarin is useful but it is hard to learn(similar to japanese). I guess you will have to balance out easy and useful.
Even though it is similar in the language group, I wouldn’t recommend German because of its horrible and incredibly complicated grammar rules. I have learnt French and I think that’s fairly easy to learn, it is surprisingly similar to English in some ways, and you will find it easier than others since you know Spanish. Because of your Spanish, Italian might be an option. I wouldn’t recommend any slavic languages because they are usually complicated, i.e. Polish has 7 noun genders, Russian has very technical grammar.
I highly recommend you French for a lots of major reasons , first french is the only language with English spoken on every continents , also french is really easy to learn for an English speaker because form 70% to 72% on English come from french (Because of the Norman conquest of England in 1060 ).
Also the french is the language of the diplomacy and french will make you think in a very different way because it’s a debate language and a very precise language.
But also the french community is growing really fast , the studies shows that there is gonna be more french speaker that English speaker by 2027 . (English speakers are gonna drop from 9% of the world population to 5% in 2050 wile french is gonna rise from 3% to 8%).
You can read this article published by Virginia Tech in 2009 explaining why french is the most important foreign language to learn. (https://www.fll.vt.edu/French/whyfrench.html)
There is a lot more other reasons why studies french , if you live in the US you can learn how to appreaciat the cajun culture also lot of jobs are offered to french speaker , because of the companies from Quebec that look for french speaker , and i have like an other billions reasons but i am gonna stop here because i don’t want to right entire book 🙂
For me learning french really opened my mind and made me think differently i feel (more intelligent ) and reading in french is amazing ! you can feel what the author is thinking !
So good luck for your choice i hope that you will enjoy it !
Ho i almost forgot to tell you , by becoming a french speaker you will be a member of the Francophonie witch is composed by 70 governments.
(Sorry for my bad English , my first language is dutch.)
I would go for german. It is latin based just like spanish and english. Many of the german words sound similar to spanish and enlgish. I am taking german at my school and I am an english speaker and also a spanish speaker. German, really really easy with knowing these two.
