It’s a rough translation, and all I really need to know is if something in it is very wrong.

Here’s the English:
The most important thing learning Chinese does for me is it opens up a new world to me. Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world, and when I learn to speak it I am able to talk to over a billion people that I couldn’t talk to before. It gives me a cultural understanding that most Americans don’t have.
It also opens up a world of literature, art, and culture. There are so many good Chinese books, movies, and works of art, and Chinese culture has had thousands of years to develop. Learning another language is something everybody should do.

And my translation:

Thank you!

What are some of the best resources to study Mandarin?

So far I am self-taught & NO schools within a 50mile radius offer any courses. However, I can speak some already & can read/write about 250 Han Yu so far. I listen to a lot of Chinese music & watch TW dramas but it seems like I can’t get any further in learning. I’m interested in hearing peoples stories of learning Chinese. Jia You! ^^v Xie Xie!

I have a question about learning Mandarin Chinese?

I had to take a foreign language and my only options were German or (Mandarin)Chinese so I signed up for Chinese. All of my friends are telling me that I am crazy and that learning Chinese is too hard. English is my main language. I know conversational Spanish, a little Arabic, and a few words in Japanese. The class is from late August until mid December. Do you think I can learn Chinese or do you think that my friends are right, that it would be too hard?

Is it hard to learn Mandarin? (DETAILS INCLUDED)?

I’ve been learning Japanese for 10 years and I’m quite good at it. My question is: I also want to learn Chinese (Mandarin). Do you think that would be very hard, considering they use the same alphabet, but you just say it differently out aloud. Or do you think knowing Japanese beforehand would make it easier?
Just to clarify… I know that Japanese and Mandarin share only the alphabet. I wasn’t born yesterday. I’m asking if knowledge of Kanji (Japanese alphabet) helps when learning Chinese to make writing easier. I am aware both languages are spoken differently.
More details: I’m already starting to learn Korean. I want to be an interpreter.

why do you want to learn Mandarin?

I am thinking about learning Chinese (Mandarin), why do you people want to learn it, please give me a few reasons, and why do you want Mandarin rather than Cantonese or any other dialect? If I have more reasons to learn, I think I will learn it more hard.

What is a good book to learn Mandarin?

I will be working in China in September, I was wondering what book you would recommend for learning Chinese also a good Chinese-English dictionary? Also if you know a place I can buy it… if not I can find it online.

I’m really interested in learning Chinese in Korean. I’m in high school and I’ve talked to some of my teachers and they said that if I could find an independent study program for either languages I could use it next year. I’m looking for an actual curriculum with books, worksheets, and tests. I hate Rosetta stone and pimsleur only teaches travel stuff. Any Ideas?

I’m looking for celebrities who are studying / learning Chinese Mandarin, both currently and in the past. Also, do you know of celebrities who can actually speak Chinese Mandarin?
