I can speak mandarin!?

Im brown and my entire family is brown but I just recently learned how to speak Mandarin. will that put me in a better position while visiting pacific mall?

I’m chinese and I’m having difficulty choosing a foreign language for high school. I’m gonna be an incoming freshmen. I already know how to speak mandarin, and read and write a bit. In addition to mandarin, i know how to speak Cantonese as well. I know that chinese is very big on our society right now, but I live in california. Many people here know how to speak spanish. I’ve also heard that many colleges are more interested in students to take a language that is unfamiliar to them like Chinese to take french, german, or spanish, and Caucasians to take mandarin. In the future, i would like to become a doctor. Which would be a better choice for me, mandarin, or spanish?

My husband’s family speaks Mandarin primarily and they would like our child to learn how to speak Mandarin. The baby will be born in August and I am currently in the process of trying to learn myself but I still have a long way to go. I don’t want my husband and his family to teach the baby Chinese and I won’t be able to share in some of his first words. Do we need to teach the baby his primary language first and then work on adding Chinese in later?

Whats the best way to learn Mandarin on my own?

Im half Taiwanese and I really dont know how to speak much Mandarin, I use to be fluent but I stopped talking to my grandparents in Mandarin and would LOVE to learn how to speak Mandarin again.

So whats the best way to learn? I think the best way is to actually talk to someone in the language. But are their any good book and learning materials that I should get to help me out? Is Rosetta Stone a good program to help you learn a language? Please, any information will help. Thanks!

I am learning how to speak Chinese..?

I am currently learning how to speak Mandarin…and I was just wondering how long it took non-Chinese people to learn…and i am fully aware that people learn at different rates than others…

I’m actually Chinese, but I barely know how to speak Mandarin. My grandmother happened to be Chinese, but somehow my dad was unable to learn it. I really don’t want to lose this ability. I know I’m sort of not making sense, but yeah. I really want to learn Mandarin, not only to prove my parent I can learn, but able to understand Taiwanese series. haha. I just want a site that is able to give me lessons for FREE. I really want Rosetta Stone, but it’s too expensive. Please help me out.

I am 14, and turning 15 in about 4 months. I really want to learn foreign lanuages while I’m young. I really wish I learned how to speak foreign languages when I was younger, so I could have a head start. English is my first language, and I am fluent in it. My second language is Tagalog, but I can only speak a little bit. I can understand words, phrases, and accent of Tagalog. Therefore, watching Filipino soap operas is easy to me because I can understand what they are saying, but I sometimes get confused and have to ask someone to translate for me.

I’m currently raking Spanish 1, and I’m learning many words, but it’s sometimes difficult for me even though Tagalog is Spanish-influenced. Now I want to learn how to speak Mandarin Chinese. BTW, is there a difference between speaking Chinese and speaking Mandarin Chinese? Or is that the same? Can you please give me tips, so I can learn these languages? I want to take advantage of my age and be prepared.

im English educated chinese guy and i dont know how to read or write but i know how to speak mandarin. what i afraid is that chinese language will be the international language soon as china is getting greater and better. i already feel upset that i dont know chinese and i heard from a friend said that chinese is getting popular so she gonna let his children to learn chinese in the future.

and i know some of u will say that i can still learn mandarin and etc but i dont have such time and such money to learn. it costs almost 0 per month to learn to write and read mandarin.
so, is it true? chinese/mandarin language will become the international language soon?

Ok, Next year I want to continue my study in Taiwan…
It’s possible if I can learn how to speak Mandarin clearly in only 1 year??
Or it’s alright if I postpone continue my study in university for 1 or 2 years??

Me and my gf have been going out for about a year. Now we have gotten into arguments about this subject a couple times.I dont go out with her and her friends very often, but when we do they speak mandarin most of the time. Now i notice that her friends do speak english,i think they speak it a little better then my girlfriend does! Now my girlfriend tells me they don’t like her to bring me around because they feel uncomfortable that they are speaking mandarin and i can’t understand them. I really don’t mind, I just count it as spending time with her. I do notice sometimes they do speak english sometimes in there conversations but it ends up going back into mandarin. Plus my gf tells me there are just some things they cant express in english as they could in mandarin to each other. She tells me its more of a comfort issue on her knowing how to speak mandarin better than english. Im looking for opinions or maybe even similar experiences. People who speak mandarin as there native language are encouraged to reply! Thanks all!!

i need a free sofware, no free trials where you need to buy full versions. I need to find a software that is a free full version that teaches how to speak Mandarin.

I am interested in learning how to speak Mandarin Chinese, and I’m curious to know how long it might take me in order to be adequate at the language. I am a college student on summer break right now so I have plenty of free time. Also, I have studied Japanese and French.
Also, lemme just say that I am not interested in learning how to write or read Chinese right now…..all I want to know is how long it would take until I would be able to maybe…listen to a Chinese television show and understand what they are saying, or maybe travel to Asia and be able to get along okay.
